Capturing The Landscape
About
Artist Statement
Belinda Millar is a predominantly en plein air landscape artist based in Oxfordshire. Her love for the outdoors echoes in her practice, working in the landscape on expressive pieces which capture the movement and feeling of a day. Each piece is a testament to the ever-changing light, shifting horizons, and the immersive experience of painting outdoors.
Using bold brushstrokes and often vibrant pallets, Belinda pushes the balance between abstraction and representing of place. Always working on a flourecent pink ground, these vivid splashes of colour add energy to her work and uplift each piece whatever its scale.
Her landscapes can feel dreamlike yet familiar, sparking a sense of connection to a physical, remembered or imagined place.
Belindas process of working outside en plein air is deeply rooted in the land, often walking some distance across open countryside and through woodland until she finds her subject. Purely guided by and responding with urgency and energy to the day.
