Artist Statement
Belinda Millar’s work is an exploration of the interplay between colour, mark-making, and form. Through her use of vibrant hues and dynamic brushstrokes, Millar captures the essence of emotion and movement. She specialises in Abstract and Life work.
Her Abstract process is intuitive and yet methodical, allowing the materials to guide her, resulting in artworks that are both organic and structured. Millar draws her main inspiration from nature, weaving these influences into her art to create a rich tapestry of visual storytelling.
Her Life practice focuses on the flow and fluidity of the human form, emphasising this in loose watercolour brushstrokes and smooth continuous lines. Mainly considering the female form, she captures the many facets of what is means to be a woman in today’s society, depicting strength, evolution and softness.
Each piece is a journey, an invitation to pause and reflect on the beauty and chaos that coexist in our world, finding order and repetition in otherwise random interactions. Millar’s work challenges viewers to see beyond the surface, to find meaning in the abstract, and to connect with their own emotions, memories and experiences.
